Community College Daily Reports MCC is Among Rise Prize Finalists
Community College Daily's Matthew Dembecki reports that MCC is among 26 finalists, including four community colleges, vying for the inaugural Rise Prize.
As noted in the article, "The award program, which has a $1.5 million total prize pool, seeks to increase awareness about the unique needs of student parents and increase the number of effective solutions accelerating their postsecondary success. The American Association of Community Colleges is a partner in the initiative, which is funded by Imaginable Futures and Lumina Foundation."
The finalists will be paired with leading expert coaches before pitching their respective solutions to a panel of judges in late June. Fourteen winners will be named in early July. Prizes range from $50,000 to $200,000.
MCC's proposed solution, the Student-Parent Connection, provides student parents the opportunity to enroll in short-term, highly effective training/academic programs supported by high-touch, tailored and connective family-friendly services designed to accelerate them from pre-enrollment to job attainment.
Bristol Community College, Everett Community College and Los Angeles Valley Community College were also named finalists.
Our thanks to Heather Cruz (Student Services-Downtown Campus) and Mary Ann DeMario (Institutional Research), with support from Nancy Lillis (Strategic Resource Development & Grant Management), for ensuring MCC stays at the forefront of efforts to support student parents.
