Christina Heyon Lee - Finalist for the Greater Rochester Chamber ATHENA International Awards

It is with great honor and pride that I share that Christina Heyon Lee has been nominated for the 2024 Athena International Award sponsored by the Greater Rochester Chamber.  Christina currently serves as the Coordinator I for Global Education and International Services (GEIS) and has been with the GEIS department since 2017 and has been employed at MCC since 2013.

Christina’s work focuses on building strategic partnerships and creating curricular programming with a global lens that incorporates perspectives on diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice.  She is co-chair of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accountability (IDEA) Council, leads MCC's Global Roundtable, and mentors the Global Union Student Association.  In the community, Christina is Vice President of Brighton Central School District’s Board of Education, board member of the Asian/Pacific Islander American Association of Greater Rochester and steering committee member for the Levine Center to End Hate. She also serves as vice chair of the community advisory board for WXXI/The Little Theatre.  She is a graduate of the United Way of Greater Rochester’s Asian Pacific American Leadership Development Program and an alumna of the SUNY SAIL (Strategic, Academic, and Innovative Leadership) Institute. Born in Seoul, South Korea, she immigrated to Rochester as a child. She earned degrees in cultural anthropology from SUNY Buffalo and University of Colorado, Boulder, and is currently working on her EdD at the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester.

The internationally-recognized ATHENA Award Program was founded in 1982 in Lansing, Michigan by ATHENA International Founder Martha Mertz. The award was originally established to honor the achievements of exceptional women leaders. And more importantly, it was established to inspire others to achieve excellence in their professional and business lives.

Please join me in congratulating Christina on this honor and wish her luck when the winners are announced on February 1, 2024. And, regardless of the decision, she will continue to be a valued employee and colleague at MCC.
