Kaballah and Jewish Mysticism Lecture

The Leroy V. Good Library (Brighton campus) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a lecture Friday, September 28, 2007, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Rabbi Rebeca Gutterman of Temple B’rith Kodesh will lecture on “The Kaballah and Jewish Mysticism: A Brief Introduction.” The lecture will be held on the fourth floor of the library, outside of room 2-452.

What is the fascination with the Kaballah and why are so many modern celebrities adherents? What is the secret wisdom of the Kaballah and why is it secret? The lecturer, Rabbi Rebeca Gutterman, an expert on Jewish mystical thought, will answer these and other questions. The rabbi was ordained from Hebrew Union College in May 2004 and further augmented her rabbinical training through work with a Deaf Jewish community and an apprenticeship with the San Francisco-based A Traveling Jewish Theatre. This last experience reflects Rabbi Gutterman’s long-held passion for writing and performance. Please join us for what promises to be an intriguing and educational exploration of the world of Jewish mysticism, led by a natural performer.

“The Kaballah and Jewish Mysticism: A Brief Introduction” is scheduled to specifically complement the Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature reading and discussion series being held this fall in the Leroy V. Good Library (
