TCC, Day 5 of our gratitude series: Kudos to you, MCC Faculty & Professional Staff

The Teaching and Creativity Center continues to celebrate the achievements across the college.  Today, I have an exciting collection of kudos to share. Please join me in celebrating the following departments; Global Education and International Services, Curriculum and Program Development, Health and PE, English and Philosophy, Visual Arts and Performing Arts and Psychology. Thank you for all your hard work. It is always pleasure to share kudos across the college. Stay tuned for more tomorrow!

Kudos from Colleagues to Colleagues

Christina Lee (GEIS)

Kudos to Dr. Christina Lee for providing care and information to our International Students. There is a lot of fear and anxiety over the policies that will occur over the next four years, and Dr. Lee is responsible for reassuring our students and protecting their status as MCC students. Her work is instrumental in fulfilling the MCC mission of building global engagement and understanding.

Susan Hall (Curriculum and Program Development)

Many thanks to Dr. Susan Hall for her hard work in making curriculum assessment at the College streamlined, efficient, and meaningful. In addition to her duties as Associate Director of Curriculum and Program Development, she is serving as Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) for our Middle States Self-Study and co-chairing the Standard V Working Group. Her work behind the scenes allows us to provide robust curricular experiences for all MCC students.

Renee Dimino and Terry Shamblin (Health and PE)

Thank you so much to Renee and Terry, for being so supportive of the well-being of your colleagues by offering opportunities such as a weekly brief online meditation, as well as wellness activities such as a mindful lunch. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated!

Annie Vershay (Health and PE)

Annie Vershay is such a great support to us in the Health and PE Department.  In addition to her great motivation to do anything she can to help, she has an excellent disposition.  Despite fielding numerous questions and situations on a continual basis, she maintains a friendly and positive attitude.  We are extremely lucky to have her.

Kudos from Students to Faculty

Maria Brandt (English and Philosophy)

Professor Brandt is literally the most caring kindhearted powerhouse of an educator I’ve ever met. When I was on the verge of making the decision to drop out she made herself available to me and supported me even outside of class…. Thank you for making such a huge impact in my experience as a first time college adult.

Nancy O’Donnell (English and Philosophy)

Nancy is capable of breathing life into the most mundane situations. Her literacy in current events combined with her charismatic, albeit quirky attitude gets me through what I would find an otherwise uninteresting class. She does not tolerate zombies!!! If you express the will to learn, she's a good fit for you. The world needs more teachers like her. Gold star! 10/10 would English again.

Doug Henneberg (Health and PE)

This is my sports science professor and he has been amazing! He has worked with me really well while i have been sick. He is an amazing professor, he knows how to make learning fun and knows how to keep us interested in what we are learning about. I have never had a teacher/professor like him in all my years of being in school. Being in his class is truly amazing.

Andy Knapp (Psychology)

This semester at MCC, I have had the complete joy and privilege getting to have Dr. Knapp as my professor. This semester I have also been fortunate enough to work aside him in another capacity as well, being his Supplemental Instructor for his Psychology 101 class. The first and most prominent thing about Dr. Knapp, is his distinctly palpable excitement that is his passion for teaching! I have recently fallen in love with academia, and along with that, I have also discovered a passion for teaching! Dr. Knapp, is exactly the kind of professor I will aspire to be! I am in absolute awe of his sometimes seemingly completely random knowledge. However, his knowledge about his chosen discipline is also particularly inspiring! Watching him explain psychology research to 101 students, in a way that they will understand is impressive. However, what is even more impressive, is his follow up! Not only will he explain the research, but he takes the extra time to check to make sure students are comprehending it! If there is a particularly intimidating graph or chart to be found in the text/lecture, you can be sure, that Dr. Knapp will explain it and break it down! He takes these extra measures with his grading and feedback practices as well! I can say with complete confidence, that Dr. Knapp, has made me a better student! Seldom do students turn in a paper with anticipatory excitement, however, with Dr. Knapp, that is the case for me! I know any paper I turn in will be returned to me with very detailed feedback and commentary! As a student who cares deeply for this opportunity to pursue my education, my experience with Dr. Knapp this semester has been invaluable. There are few, if any words I have that can sufficiently express my gratitude for his mentorship! I am not one to shy away from writing, so that's a big statement from me! Dr. Knapp has been an absolute cornerstone of my educational experience here at MCC. I am so grateful that he is a professor here, and that other students will be fortunate enough to have him as a professor as well!

Rollo Fisher (VaPA)

Dr. Rollo Fisher has been instrumental in helping me discover and develop my voice, both as a member of The Tributones Acapella group and in the school musical American Idiot. Through his guidance and expertise, I’ve gained the confidence to explore my vocal range and embrace the unique qualities of my voice. His encouragement to take risks and step outside my comfort zone has allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the rich harmonies of The Tributones while also tackling the challenging and emotionally charged music of American Idiot. Dr. Fisher’s unwavering support and personalized feedback have not only honed my technical skills but also deepened my passion for performing, leaving a lasting impact on my growth as a singer and performer.
