The spring 2010 issue of Celebrating Greyhounds magazine includes the article, “India – More Than A Sighthound,” by Professor Pamela D. Korte (Nursing). India is a therapy dog who also assists people as they read by providing a calming influence.
The article tells the story of how India has made a positive difference in many lives – including possibly saving Korte’s life. In January 2009 India alerted Korte before an electrical fire broke out due to a faulty furnace. India also alerted Korte when her whippet, Cassie, was injured.
Since 1993, Korte has owned four greyhounds and a whippet. She launched the “Foundations of Animal Assisted Therapy” course at MCC last fall.
