Please Submit Transfer Program Revisions For New SUNY General Education Framework - Fall 2023 Implementation

The Curriculum Office would like to extend thanks to all faculty and staff who have been diligently working towards the Fall 2023 implementation of the new SUNY General Education framework for A.A. and A.S. degrees. A.A.S. degree programs are scheduled for Fall 2024 implementation.

If your department has not started working on your program revision(s) – please begin doing so. Many program revisions will have to be sent to SUNY & SED for re-registration.  We want to have as many transfer programs submitted in December and January, preferably at Final Approval in March 2023, for Fall 2023 implementation.

While you are thinking about your program revisions, please remember that there have been many changes in regards to general education, including courses receiving different designations, and courses that were not previously considered general education receiving new designations.

Along with the 15-week schedules for SUNY general education course revisions, SUNY general education guidance and policy documents can be found in folders at this location: M:\Offices\Shared\New SUNY Gen Ed. You may wish to review these documents as you start your program revision(s). A course tracking spreadsheet is also available at this location, and it is being continually updated with a list of new SUNY general education courses and their respective attributes. Program revision forms can be accessed through the Current MCC Curriculum Proposals Database.

Generally speaking, SUNY review of proposals will focus on whether our program submissions meet the new requirements while NYSED review will continue to focus on meeting the minimum credit requirements for Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS): 75% of total credits for A.A.; 50% of total credits for A.S.; and 33% of total credits for A.A.S.

If you have any questions or concerns about your curriculum revisions, please contact the Curriculum Office. We are here to help and offer support to make the revision process go as smoothly as possible.
