Retiree Mary "Betty" Deveney, Support Staff

The family of Mary "Betty" Deveney (Financial Aid and Purchasing departments) recently notified the College of her passing on September 20, 2020. Mrs. Deveney's funeral was also held in September.

Mrs. Deveney was predeceased by her husband Roger, and son, Charles. She is survived by her children Mary Slathe (Deveney), Roger (Pam) Deveney, John Deveney, Michael (Diane) Deveney, Ann (Duane) Debejian, and daughter-in-law, Gina Deveney; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Having previously worked for Pittsford Central Schools and Carrier Air Conditioning Company while raising her family, Ms. Deveney transferred from Monroe Community Hospital to MCC in 1987. She started her MCC career as a clerk III with typing in the Financial Aid Office. In 1990, she was promoted to clerk II with typing in MCC's Purchasing Department.

Mrs. Deveney was recognized for the quality and efficiency of her work, her ability to solve problems, and the inspiring way she served the needs of students and colleagues. She helped the College navigate challenging economic times in the early 1990s and was considered a key member of the Purchasing team. She retired from MCC in July 1994.

Mrs. Deveney was a dedicated community volunteer and an avid sports fan who cheered on teams from Boston, including the New England Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. Read more about her life in this online tribute.
