TCC: Tip of the Day - Poster presentations can be done virtually through Padlet

For the next few weeks, we are inviting our faculty to share stories and images from their virtual classes. What is working well? What are you learning about teaching, teaching online and your students?

Today's highlight comes from Tracey Graney in Biology.

I was looking for a way to replace a poster presentation for my students' capstone course. I didn't want to give it up because it is how I evaluate their ability to communicate about the clinical laboratory to folks outside the lab.

Padlet is now offering MCC the free Backpack version Padlet until the end of June! Here's why it is a great tool:

A Padlet is basically a virtual posterboard. It can be used individually or collaboratively. Users can upload documents, images, videos, add links, draw, or just type into the textboxes. There are several layout options - some that create a grid and some that allow the boxes to be moved anywhere. There are also timeline and map versions. Padlets can be shared with anyone by sending a link or QR code, but our privacy settings are set to "secret," so they cannot be seen in the public area. Anyone can check out this mini orientation: https://padlet.com/toothfairy/school

If anyone is interested in being added as a teacher, please send an email to tgraney1@monroecc.edu with "Padlet access" as the subject. In the body of the email, provide your name and email in the following format: your name, youremail,,,teacher

That is the EXACT format needed when entering multiple users. Those lines will be cut and pasted into the system, so it is vital the format is correct. I will not have time to proofread and make corrections. Once users are in the system, they receive an email with login information. Each "teacher" can then add their own students.

If you would like to talk about what's happening in your classes join the daily non-judgmental conversations about teaching during COVID-19. These happen daily from 9 - 10 am and 3 - 4 pm.
