Support Staff Planning Council Donates Dozens of Supplies to Area Schools

The Support Staff Planning Council organized a month-long school supply collection drive to benefit teachers in local school districts as part of the Jewish Family Services Rochester’s Pencils & Paper project. The council helped gather five boxes of school supplies which, along with other donations from groups and organizations around Rochester, totaled more than $1.5 million worth of supplies.

Jenny Petersen, a member of the Support Staff Planning Council, said MCC donations came from staff, faculty, administration, and retirees. She said this is the fifth semester MCC has participated in the drive and plans to hold another one in the Spring Semester.

When asked why she thought it was important to give back to the community, Jenny said, “As a high-profile public institution, we owe much to our community.  As members of the College, we must be willing to assist those in need.  As humans in the community, we must help each other anyway, any time we can.”
