Day 6 of our gratitude series: Kudos from Colleagues to Colleagues
MCC students, faculty, staff, and administrators are supported by many wonderful people working in offices all over our campuses. Please join the TCC in thanking the following individuals whose good work was nominated by their colleagues:
Andrew Eggleston (Learning Resources)
- Andy has graciously served as our standardized patient in our chest pain simulation for several years. This is above and beyond the call of duty and helps our students interact with a "live" patient. His time and effort to this project is so appreciated.
Gabel Namba (Learning Resources)
- Gabel has been instrumental with any tech issues we have had this semester and every semester (and we have a lot!). He is always kind, patient and understanding. He arrives with a smile and is a true pleasure to work with.
Deb Ake (Engineering Science and Physics)
- Debbie is always so helpful, genuine, and a great person to go to if you have any questions or issues. She truly cares about the students at MCC.
Elizabeth Appel Frizzell (Library Partnership)
- Elizabeth has always displayed a positive and can-do attitude but in her new role as Director of the Liberty Partnerships Program(LPP), she has inspired all of us to go above and beyond to serve students in the RCSD in a positive and compassionate manner. She is always available to answer questions or give advice and her creative problem-solving skills allow LPP to offer Interesting and fun activities and learning experiences to engage students and families. Elizabeth is forward thinking and has LPP on the path to becoming a readily recognized and appreciated program to support students towards high school graduation and beyond.
Diane Navarro (Library Services)
- Diane has recently taken over management of the student laptop loan program which is run out of the library. She ensures that any student in need who requests technology is paired up with a laptop loaner. She has also been a great support with presentation coaching to students participating in Scholars' Day, the Celebration of Learning, and for general class assignments. Student success and support is always a priority for Diane!
Library Access Services Staff
- Bill, Mary S., Diane, Jonathan, Kevin, Courtney, Yaqoob, and all of the Library Student Assistants have contributed to making MCC Libraries one of the most welcoming spaces on campus. As the first people seen as you enter the library, each of them greet students with a smile and they strive to provide the BEST service possible to all of our library users- no matter what is needed. I am grateful to work with all of them and most appreciative of the genuine care they show to our students every day. Way to go!
Martha Kendall (Faculty Innovation Center)
- Martha is a pro at what she does. Having worked at the college for decades, and still working part-time in retirement, I can always count on her to know the answers to my Brightspace questions. Her sunny personality always brightens my day. These qualities are what make her Super in my book!
Jacob Bodway (English and Philosophy)
- Jacob is a dedicated and talented professor. His commitment to creating success for our students is of high priority. His loyalty to MCC's mission, vision, and programming is sincere and steadfast. If you need something, Jacob is there at the ready, particularly in the realm of all things composition and online-learning related. He is constantly willing to share and support his students and colleagues. Jacob's work on ALP reflects his deep commitment to student success and forward-thinking when it comes to innovation. He is involved and helpful and an asset to MCC. I feel honored to work with such a dedicated and sincere colleague.
Jean McCrumb (Education)
- Jean goes above and beyond in all she does! She creates inclusive spaces, is so pleasant to work with and is available to all who come looking for her (the foot traffic to her office is remarkable). Jean is a great colleague who everyone can depend on!
Judi Salsburg-Taylor (ESOL & TRS)
- Judi Salsburg-Taylor, having over two decades of experience in post-secondary reading and writing instruction, serves as a model for effective advanced literacy support for adult learners. As the continuum of college readiness stretches ever longer with each passing year and each new technological advance, Judi’s theory-to-practice process becomes more relevant. As a board member of the national College Reading and Learning Association, Judi is committed to the support of post-secondary educators, which includes commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and justice in general within higher education. Her ongoing collaboration with experts across the nation keeps her on the cutting edge of innovative approaches to teaching and learning. All of this translates to compassionate, informed support for the needs of our students, and MCC is fortunate to benefit from her experience, skills, and dedication.
Elizabeth Johnston (English and Philosophy)
- Elizabeth gives much of herself to deliver a great learning experience for students. For ENG 101, she continually adds value to the course's presence in Brightspace (although the course is strong as it is). She also conducts her course development ahead of when students need it. She uses the dynamic and engaging tool VoiceThread to foster student interactions. She provides extensive and meaningful feedback. Elizabeth also reduces cognitive load on students, for example, by simplifying the submission process for TRS assignments. The theme seems to be: Elizabeth takes more work upon herself to make things better for students.
Susan Bender (Pearlberg) (VAPA)
- Susan supported an adjunct professor who stepped in to teach an SPC course mid-semester. Susan took work on herself (despite her own course load) to help develop and enhance the course in Brightspace, making less work for the other instructor and supporting students both emotionally and instructionally!
Margaret Lebioda (Facilities - Custodial Operations)
- Margaret has recently been promoted to a Custodian and is currently working as an Out of Title Head Custodian. She has worked hard to fill a vacancy in our department. Her dedication to her professional development and growth is an asset to our team. We appreciate you Margaret!
Pat Joram (Facilities)
- Pat is a tremendous asset to the Facilities Department. She works hard to provide us with invaluable information before we even ask for it. Her knowledge of computer software and dedication to understanding and completing projects is impressive. Not only is she fun and interesting to engage with she is always taking care of the team whether it's paperwork or cookies. We are lucky to have her!
Pamela Caulkins (Students Account Office)
- Pam provides outstanding customer service to all students and staff. Pam is attentive, caring, patient, responsive and proactive when assisting others. She always goes above and beyond to support the operation of the Student Accounts Office. Her work ethic is commendable and admirable. Pam's commitment to doing her job remarkably well is truly inspiring. Thank you for all that you do!
Melis Kural (Teaching and Creativity Center)
- I know this will be weird posting kudos about yourself, but I really appreciate the work that you have done since joining us. The TCC feels so active now and really focused on DEI work. You are doing a great job.
