Please Refer Your Talented and Motivated Students to the Honors Institute

The Honors Institute needs your assistance in identifying academically talented and highly motivated students who may benefit from and enjoy an Honors course or seminar. Students in the Honors Institute find the smaller class sizes, increased interaction with fellow students and faculty, and the numerous opportunities for undergraduate research, service learning, and scholarship support to be most rewarding. Last semester, we had many outstanding students recommended by faculty and staff from across the college – and we know that there are many more at MCC. Please help us find them, so that they can take advantage of what the Institute has to offer.

Through an exciting blend of course-based study, unique curricular and co-curricular experiential learning activities, and collaborative learning opportunities, students explore some of the most challenging problems and questions facing the world today. Most importantly, they receive an education tailored to their capabilities. Our curriculum is designed to prepare them for transfer to some of the nation’s finest colleges and universities. Our student success stories are many, so please help us add to them.

We’ve found that your personal encouragement is the most successful recruiting tool the Honors Institute possesses. Referring a student couldn’t be easier. Our fall course application will be distributed to faculty mailboxes – simply fill out your name as the person making the recommendation and, with a word or two of encouragement, give it to the student. You all should have received two brochures that detail the Honors Institute – please keep these on hand during advisement, since these will offer interested students an overview of what Honors is all about. Of course, feel free to suggest that students stop by the Honors office (5-212) if they have questions.

Students are much more likely to take an Honors course if they receive the invitation before they register for next semester’s courses. Priority registration begins Monday, March 10th.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call (x3351) or email me at <"mailto:honorsstudies@monroecc.edu">.

Thanks very much for your help.
