COS 181 Mentors Needed

We are looking for mentors for student enrolled in COS 181, Strategies for Academic Progress, during the fall 2023 semester!

Anyone who works at Monroe Community College can be a mentor. In our mentoring program, we strive to:

  • encourage students to create conditions that will help them thrive
  • cultivate curiosity and engage with a spirit of genuine care
  • practice being deep listeners and reflective questioners
  • support students on their journey at MCC (and beyond!)
  • create a transformational experience for both mentees and mentor

We see this role as mentor and success coach. Read Coaching and mentoring: Methods leaders can use to develop talent article and for tips and ideas.

Being a mentor involves scheduling an initial meeting with your student either in person, by phone, through email or on Zoom, and reaching out to your student on a regular basis (suggested 1x per week) to discuss their wellbeing and progress. As a mentor, you’ll assist your mentee in finding campus resources or staff assistance when needed, talk with your student about their current academic situation, co-create goals for their next steps, and most importantly provide encouragement to support your student.

Thank you to those who were able to join the mentor interest meeting last week. If you were unable to join or to learn more about the COS 181 mentor program, watch the COS 181: Strategies for Academic Success recording.

If you are interested in being a mentor and have not previously completed the interest survey, fill out the COS 181 Mentor Interest Survey for Fall 2023. You can also email Renee Diminio (rdmino@monroecc.edu) with your interest or with any questions.

Thank you to those of you who have signed up and for those considering taking on this important role for student success.
