End of Semester Message

Dear Students, Faculty, & Staff:

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. - Eleanor Roosevelt

Reflecting on the spring semester, I am genuinely impressed by all that we have accomplished together. We have expanded our knowledge, navigated significant challenges, and grown as an institution.

In April, we broke ground on the new Advanced Technology Center (ATC) on the Brighton Campus. The new facility will provide students with the knowledge and cutting-edge skills required in today's evolving tech landscape. We were also awarded funds to help establish the RochesterWorks Downtown Career Center and the Finger Lakes One Network for Regional Advanced Manufacturing Partnerships (ON-RAMP) Center. Both will help unlock opportunities for students by connecting them with employment that pays family-sustaining wages.

Our employee- and student-led work with Unlocking Opportunity: The Post-Graduation Success and Equity Network has garnered national attention and accolades from the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program as we commit all the more to promoting students’ success.

We have established three primary goals: redesigning our advising model, improving Gateway English and Math outcomes, and improving post-graduation outcomes through program mapping. In each, we have made progress, with the hiring of twelve student success coaches for Advising Reimagined. Our English and math faculty have successfully been working to increase engagement with the Tutoring & Academic Assistance Center (TAAC), with the number of students seeking math support in the Fall 2024 semester nearly doubling compared to the Fall 2023 figures. For program mapping, the College Now/Dual Enrollment operations are streamlining their offerings to expand and provide intentional pathways that align with MCC's programs.

Despite the changes and challenges we, and our peers nationally, are experiencing, our core values are steadfast—we remain laser-focused on creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for our students to learn, grow, and thrive. I thank the entire MCC family for your collective commitment to our mission as we catalyze bright futures for our community and its people.

As we approach Commencement on May 29, 2025, I feel a sense of gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead. I congratulate all our students for their hard work this semester and extend best wishes to our graduating class! Whether moving on to a four-year institution or seeking full-time employment, remember to build upon the foundation you laid at MCC. Believe in your dreams, work hard, and be proud of your accomplishments!

I would also like to thank our retirees for their years of service to MCC. You have our deepest gratitude for your unwavering commitment to our students and for sharing your talents with us! Best wishes in your retirement!

Life often shows us that endings and beginnings are not distinct or separate but rather closely intertwined. So, while the end of the semester may feel like a definitive goodbye, it also holds the promise of new beginnings on the horizon.

I hope you have the opportunity to take some time for yourself in the coming months and that it provides the relaxation and restoration we all need.

I look forward to another semester of discovery and to seeing each of you in August. Have a wonderful and safe summer!
