Implementation of the New Intent to Enroll Process and Success Coaching Model

As part of the College’s broader Unlocking Opportunity initiative, the ongoing Advising Redesign continues to gain momentum. I’m excited to share an important development in our efforts: an enhanced student onboarding experience launching fall 2025.

This past March, Admissions, Computing & Information Technology Services, Instructional Services, and Student Success & Advising Services collaborated to implement the new Intent to Enroll form within Slate. This key milestone strengthens our ability to build early connections with committed students, laying the groundwork for more proactive advising and a seamless transition into their academic pathway.

Intent to Enroll: Formalizing Student Commitment

The Intent to Enroll form marks a student’s formal commitment to attend MCC. This step empowers us to shift from a reactive to a proactive advising model, ensuring that each student receives timely, individualized support starting from the moment they express their intent to enroll.

Assignment of Success Coaches: Personalized Student Support

Once newly committed students submit the Intent to Enroll form, they will be assigned a Success Coach. These coaches are key members of the Student Success & Advising Services team, focused on providing comprehensive student support - from onboarding and advising to career guidance—helping students achieve long-term success.

Role of Success Coaches

  • Guidance: Assist students in setting academic, career, and transfer goals, maintaining progress through milestone courses, and completing their programs of study.
  • Caseload Management: Provide consistent, personalized support to a caseload of students throughout their educational journey.
  • Collaboration: Partner with faculty and staff to create a seamless, supportive experience for students.

Why This Matters

This proactive approach to student support is designed to:

  • Ensure timely and personalized guidance from enrollment through graduation, boosting student confidence and success.
  • Foster a sense of belonging and connection to the MCC community, driving engagement and persistence.
  • Proactively identify and respond to both academic and holistic student needs, addressing challenges before they become obstacles to success.
