Creating Your Own Captions
Several companies allow you to produce your own captions for free. These include YouTube, Amara.org and Subtitle Horse. To caption your video, follow these steps:
- Upload your video to the web.
- Provide the video URL to the captioning service.
- Use the captioning tool to watch the video and transcribe audio to text.
- Review and edit the captions for accuracy.
- Download the caption file in the appropriate format.
You may wish to explore using speech recognition technology to caption your videos faster. Programs such as Dragon Naturally Speaking will allow for automatic translation of your voice. You will need to spend some time training the program to recognize your voice, and you will still need to proofread the text to ensure that the translation is accurate.
