Basic principles of financial accounting for the business enterprise with emphasis on the valuation of business assets, measurement of net income, and double-entry techniques for recording transactions. Introduction to the cycle of accounting work, preparation of financial statements, and adjusting and closing procedures.

Prerequisite(s):TRS 094 or MTH 130, either with a grade of C or better OR MCC Level 4 Mathematics Placement OR equivalent.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Perform each step of the accounting cycle for a service business or merchandising operation.
2. Apply key internal control procedures.
3. Perform basic financial analysis.
4. Explain how to account for balance sheet elements such as cash, inventories, receivables, plant assets, intangible assets or liabilities.

A continuation of the basic principles of financial accounting including a study of corporation accounts and the statement of cash flows. The course deals with the development of accounting theory with emphasis on managerial techniques for interpretation and use of data in planning and controlling business activities.

Prerequisite: ACC 101 with a grade of C or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Explain how to account for corporation transactions such as stock, dividends, or treasury stock.
2. Prepare a statement of cash flows using the indirect method.
3. Apply managerial costing concepts relating to all manufacturing cost elements.
4. Perform basic financial analysis, which may include ratio analysis, incremental analysis or cost—volume-profit analysis.
5. Analyze budget reports.
6. Utilize capital budgeting techniques for decision making.

Basic principles of both financial and managerial accounting with the focus on what accounting information is, what it means, and how to use it. Students will learn that accounting is a vital link between business events and business decisions.

An applied approach to the use of Intuit QuickBooks. Material covered will include sales and receivables; payables and purchases; closing procedures; payroll; and company set-up for service and merchandising companies. This course is designed to cover skill sets needed for the QuickBooks certification exam.

Scheduled to be offered in the Fall Semester during the day and the Spring Semester during the evening.

Prerequisite: ACC 101 with a grade of C or higher OR ACC 130 with a grade of C or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Use an integrated computerized general ledger accounting package to manage assets.
2. Use an integrated computerized general ledger accounting package to record business transactions.
3. Use an integrated computerized general ledger accounting package to prepare financial reports.

An in depth study of payroll including payroll calculations, social security taxes, income taxes, unemployment taxes, form preparation, and journal entries.

Prerequisite: ACC 101 with a grade of C or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Discuss labor laws as they apply to payroll accounting.
2. Prepare governmental payroll reports.
3. Perform required transactions to record payroll.
4. Prepare complete payroll records.

A study of federal, state, and local tax law and procedures for corporations, partnerships, and individuals.

Prerequisite: ACC 101 with a grade of C or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Contrast personal, corporate and partnership Federal Income Tax law.
2. Prepare Federal income tax returns for an individual.

A more analytical treatment of accounting theory and practice, with a review and amplification of basic procedures. Topics include cash, receivables, inventories, plant assets, intangible assets, time value of money, and financial statement preparation, presentation and disclosure with emphasis on generally accepted accounting principles.

Course offered Fall semester during the day and Spring semester during the evening.

This course does not count toward the financial accounting and reporting requirement for the CPA-150 certification in New York State.

Prerequisite: ACC 102 with a grade of C or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Identify the major organizations involved in the standard-setting process.
2. Explain the financial reporting issues that face the accounting profession today.
3. Define generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
4. Explain the four parts of the GAAP conceptual framework.
5. Perform each step of the accounting cycle.
6. Prepare general-purpose financial statements such as a multiple-step income statement, classified balance sheet, retained earnings statement, or statement of cash flows, following GAAP concepts.
7. Solve accounting problems using time value of money concepts.
8. Explain reporting issues for cash, receivables, inventory, plant assets, or intangible assets.

The basic procedures and techniques of accounting used to determine, accumulate and control the cost of production and distribution of goods and services in today's economy. Process and job-order methods, standards and standard cost, techniques of cost analysis and control.

Prerequisite: ACC 102 with a grade of C or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Contrast cost concepts and behaviors at an intermediate level.
2. Prepare journal entries and related computations using various costing systems.
3. Analyze budget reports.
4. Compute standard cost variances.
5. Solve problems using a variety of cost allocation methods.

A hands-on introduction to software used by accountants. The course will focus on the problem-solving capabilities of Excel in handling various accounting and financial issues.

Prerequisite: ACC 102 WITH A GRADE OF C OR HIGHER; PLUS EITHER CRC125 OR BUS 220.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Develop and improve critical thinking and problem solving skills related to accounting principles and concepts.
2. Design and create spreadsheet solutions to accounting problems using spreadsheet software.
3. Demonstrate a working knowledge of model-building and what-if analysis in accounting using spreadsheet software.
