Math Department Policies
Final Exams
Comprehensive final exams are required in many of our mathematics courses. The exam will be administered during finals week* directly following the class end date as noted on the master schedule during a 2-hour period that closely correlates with the regular class meeting days and times. The College will post the final exam date and time within a few weeks of the start of the semester. It is the individual student’s responsibility to make any necessary personal arrangements in order to take the exam at the scheduled time.
The following MTH courses are required to administer a comprehensive final exam: 098, 099, 104, 152, 155, 156, 160, 162, 164, 165, 175, 200, 210, 211, 212, 225
The following MTH courses may require a final exam, based on the instructor’s preference: 060, 130, 150, 161, 163, 172, 220, 230
*Courses that run for a limited number of weeks (163, 164), co-requisite courses (060, 099), fast-track courses (104, 165), and Flex Pace courses (096, 098, 099, 104) may give their final exams during the semester upon completion of the course rather than during finals week.
Online Courses
The Department of Mathematics offers a variety of online courses designed to provide flexibility while maintaining academic rigor. These courses are delivered asynchronously, meaning there are no scheduled class meeting times. However, asynchronous delivery does not imply a self-paced format without structure.
All online mathematics courses have the following minimum structure:
- A clearly defined start and end date
- Proctored testing to ensure academic integrity
- A course schedule with deadlines; late submissions may incur penalties
Students enrolling in online classes should be self-motivated, organized, and able to plan ahead to meet course expectations. By registering for an online course, students agree to:
- Secure a reliable method for test proctoring in according to their course policy
- Maintain consistent access to online course materials
- Submit assignments and assessments in accordance with course policies
Online learning offers flexibility, but it also demands responsibility. We encourage students to carefully consider these expectations before enrolling.
Proctored Testing
The Department of Mathematics requires proctored testing regardless of instructional modality (face-to-face, hybrid, remote, fully online, etc.).
- Students enrolled in face-to-face classes will take required proctored tests in person with their instructor or at the accommodated testing center
- Students enrolled in non-face-to-face formats such as hybrid, remote, online may also be required to complete proctored tests. However, the method of proctoring may vary by instructor. If you are enrolled in a non-face-to-face course, please contact your instructor to learn about acceptable methods of test proctoring, and make sure these approved proctoring methods align with your schedule and availability.
