Chancellor King Announces Launch of SUNY Research Connect Portal

New Platform Spotlights SUNY’s Research Excellence with Compendium of Projects and Studies Taking Place Throughout SUNY System

Albany, NY – State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr. announced on Friday the launch of SUNY Research Connect, a comprehensive system-wide research networking platform that will accelerate discovery, collaboration, and innovation among researchers within SUNY and beyond. SUNY Research Connect is an easy-to-navigate website that showcases the profiles of nearly 7,000 SUNY researchers from 26 campuses, including their expertise, funding received, research publications, and opportunities for other researchers to share equipment. The platform launch is part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s ongoing commitment to advance SUNY research and ensure New York State is on the cutting edge of emerging technologies and industries.

“The SUNY Research Connect platform reinforces our commitment to achieving Governor Hochul’s goal to double research across our colleges and universities,” said SUNY Chancellor King. “With this portal, SUNY will offer resources and information that help fuel groundbreaking advancements and collaboration throughout the SUNY system. I am excited to see how this new initiative will bridge the gap and foster collaboration between government, academia, and industry.”

The SUNY Board of Trustees said, “Through the strong support of Governor Hochul and state leaders, SUNY is able to undertake groundbreaking research that will spur innovation, improve lives, and power our state’s economy. The new SUNY Research Connect platform will further the transformative initiative already being conducted on our campuses.”

The SUNY Research Connect platform automatically populates data on SUNY researchers and their groundbreaking work, allowing researchers to verify, add, or update their information. It also collects and showcases research equipment to expand awareness of and access to robust, cutting-edge research infrastructure available on SUNY campuses. The system launched with nearly 7,000 researchers' profiles, all of which are now available on the portal. SUNY’s world-class contributions to strategic research areas, including artificial intelligence, microelectronics, biotechnology, and quantum information science, are available with one click from the home page.

Among the breadth of SUNY research shown on the platform:

  • Since 2016, SUNY researchers have authored or co-authored nearly 120,000 research publications and published outputs in more than 14 languages.
  • Over 750 researchers are engaged in cancer-related research in the hope of saving lives.
  • Over 400 researchers are engaged in research to address mental health challenges.
  • Over 400 researchers conduct research in the emerging technology area of Artificial Intelligence.
  • Over 400 researchers conduct research in the emerging technology area of Biotechnology, Biomanufacturing, and Bioengineering.
  • Over 150 researchers conduct research in the emerging technology area of Microelectronics Packaging and Semiconductors.
  • Over 100 researchers conduct research in the emerging technology area of Quantum Information Science and Technology.
  • There are 117 facilities and research equipment pieces already highlighted on the platform, any additional items will be added as they go online for collaboration.

State University of New York at Albany President Havidán Rodríguez said, “We know that our best work isn’t done alone, and SUNY’s new Research Connect portal is an excellent tool for University at Albany scholars to build diverse research teams across campuses and industry to advance the public impact research that we do best. From sustainable aviation to precision RNA medicines, UAlbany students and faculty have worked in more than 70 countries to deliver positive impact for the communities we serve, locally and globally.”

State University of New York at Binghamton President Anne D’Alleva said, “During my recent listening tour across campus, Binghamton’s faculty shared time and again their eagerness for participating in collaborative and interdisciplinary research. SUNY Research Connect will be an invaluable tool in allowing faculty to get to know people at other universities who may be able to assist in their work and how they can contribute their expertise with others. This platform will break down barriers across SUNY’s campuses and make the entire system more adept at solving the world’s most pressing issues.”

State University of New York at Buffalo President Satish Tripathi said, “The SUNY Research Connect Portal will provide collaborators in academia, government, and industry with streamlined access to SUNY researchers’ knowledge and expertise. With the SUNY Research Connect Portal, UB’s research and creative work will have even greater reach and impact across New York State.”

State University of New York at Stony Brook President Andrea Goldsmith said, “Stony Brook researchers are advancing solutions to some of the world’s most complex challenges. SUNY Research Connect gives the public and our academic and industry partners a powerful new tool to easily find the expertise and discoveries emerging from Stony Brook and across the SUNY system. This tool enhances the impact of our research to benefit our great state by catalyzing new collaborations, partnerships, and technology transfer.”

At a time when higher education institutions throughout the nation are experiencing cuts to research funding, Governor Hochul has been steadfast in supporting SUNY research initiatives and capital investment needs. The SUNY Research Connect platform announced by Governor Hochul showcases transformative initiatives, and the many research projects taking place across the system and will help strengthen SUNY’s foundation as a research leader in higher education that is driving innovation and expanding opportunities for students, faculty, and all of New York.

In addition to launching the new SUNY research platform, Governor Hochul has highlighted major SUNY investments in research capital projects that will help move New York State forward, including:

  • In January, Governor Hochul announced that the New York Center for AI Responsibility and Research, the first-ever independent AI research center at any public university in the United States, would be established at the State University of New York at Binghamton.
  • In November 2025, Governor Hochul announced an investment to construct a new biofabrication research and imaging facility on the State University of New York at Buffalo campus that will help discover new medicines and cures to save lives.
  • Also in November 2025, Governor Hochul announced the major expansion of the State University of New York at Albany's RNA Institute to advance world-class research, training, and workforce development.
  • In October 2025, Governor Hochul announced the launch of the SUNY Brain Institute, a multi-campus initiative focused on expanding SUNY’s groundbreaking neuroscience research.
  • In September 2025, Governor Hochul established the Quantum Research and Innovation Hub at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, further catapulting New York’s national leadership in groundbreaking research that saves lives, grows the economy, and improves national security.
