ICYMI: MCC Participates in Global Optics Conference

Last week, SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, and APOMA, the American Precision Optics Manufacturers’ Association, hosted the largest optical manufacturing conference and exhibition in North America at the Joseph A. Floreano Riverside Convention Center in downtown Rochester.

As part of the conference, Monroe Community College provided transportation for participants from around the world to the Brighton Campus and back, offering a tour of the labs used in the optics technician education and training programs.  On the tour, visitors learned about how MCC educates the next generation of optics experts to thrive in the workforce right after receiving their degree or certificate.

In addition to the MCC tours, the three-day conference includes 15 courses, 63 presentations, and 175 exhibitors from more than 12 countries and nearly 30 states.  MCC offered two courses, presented on various topics, and exhibited at the conference. Hundreds of students from area high schools visited the conference on the last day to learn more about a possible career in optics.
