TCC: Spring Conversation on April 23--Virtual Reality Check: What Your Online Students Really Think

Join us for the final TCC Conversation of the semester: Virtual Reality Check: What Your Online Students Really Think

  • When: Wednesday, April 23, 2025, 12:00 PM to 12:50 PM
  • Where: Brighton Campus, Room 12-201 (with remote option on Zoom)
  • Presenters: Kate Robinson (Virtual Campus) and Jim Downer (Visual & Performing Arts)

Ever wondered what your online students really think about your virtual classrooms? Well, brace yourself (and maybe grab a coffee and some Tylenol) because Kate Robinson and Jim Downer have some answers. They’ve both surveyed online students about their experiences and perceptions of online learning, and they’ll share their data and insights.

Jim will kick things off with his video, “5 Better Practices,” focusing on learner-centered classroom design. Then, Kate will drop some wisdom, asking the question, “If you can’t explain what you are doing, how do you expect students to understand it?” Kate has a genuine, passionate commitment to helping faculty use Brightspace effectively and supports all online faculty in their quest for best teaching practices.

Whether you’re a Brightspace wizard or still trying to find where your course banner went, this TCC conversation promises practical takeaways, a few laughs, and maybe a healthy dose of self-reflection. Join us to learn, laugh, and improve the online classroom experience for everyone!

The event is designed to meet the following goals of the Teaching and Creativity Center's programming:

  • Goal 1: Create a culture of critical reflection, continual growth, and collaboration for faculty at all stages of professional growth
  • Goal 2: Promote evidence-based, high-impact, innovative course design and teaching strategies that improve student outcomes
