Presenting the Day of the Dead
The World Languages and Cultures Department along with the PRISM Multicultural Center would like you to join us as we continue to celebrate Hispanic Hertiage Month in honoring Mexican culture celebrating The Day of the Dead.
- Did you know that the Day of the Dead is way of honoring and celebrating deceased love ones in Mexican culture. It is a time that families believe that the souls of the dead return to visit, therefore people create Ofrendas (altars) decorated with photos and food to welcome the dead back.
- The "Lady of the Dead"most commonly refers to Mictecacihuatl an Aztec goddess who ruled the underworld and presided over the ancient festivals for the dead. Her festivals evolved into celebrations of the Day of the Dead.
We will have the Day of the Dead alter displayed in the PRISM Center for people to see. The atler will be on display until November 15
There will be two presentations with more exciting information about this celebration along with wonderful history inspiring great conversation. Come join us. The open is open to everyone. Presentations will be presented on two days.
