Volunteers Needed for the Roc With Your Hands event on October 7
The Rochester Technology & Manufacturing Association and the City of Rochester are hosting an exciting new event—ROC With Your Hands— for 7th to 12th grade students on Tuesday, October 7th, from 8:00am to 3:00pm at the Rochester Community Sports Complex (460 Oak Street, Rochester). Coordinated in collaboration with The Builders Exchange, UNiCON, Monroe Community College and Monroe County, the goal of this special event is to educate students on careers that require working with your hands in advanced manufacturing, skilled trades, auto tech and heavy equipment. These careers involve training and education that are not always included in traditional instruction, so this is a fun, hands-on event to expose students to these potential careers.
Students are often not aware of these great opportunities unless they have a family member working in these sectors. There are hundreds of job openings in our region and only a handful of young adults trained to fill these positions. We have great training programs at the high school level for CTE (Career & Technical Education) at BOCES 1 and 2, Edison Tech, East High and several charter schools. This event will allow students to explore and become educated on all the options that are available for these great careers and the necessary training.
To make ROC With Your Hands a success, we need your help! There are many important volunteer positions that we need to fill: communications during the event (with facility, security and medical staff); registration (day of event); tour guides (day of event); transportation (student drop-off and pick-up info to schools: week before and day of event); and help with Swag/ Merch and snacks (day of event). Morning, afternoon, and full-day slots are available!
Register online via the Roc With Your Hands Volunteer Form.
