MCC Proud: Meet Joe Calhoun Jr.

Joe Calhoun Jr. is a Building Services Worker/Heavy Laborer at Monroe Community College (MCC). His role includes cleaning, stripping and waxing floors, along with a wide range of additional duties. He has dedicated nearly 25 years of service to the college.

Calhoun, who attended Monroe/School of The Arts, has been doing this type of work since he was 18 years old. Looking back on his time at MCC, some of his favorite memories include forming friendships with Kia and Joe Mason while working in the residence halls.

Beyond those experiences, he is also deeply appreciative of Mike Dolce for being an incredible source of support in 2023, following his stroke and the loss of both of his parents to cancer. “Mike Dolce not only became my friend, but showed me that he has a really big heart…” said Calhoun. “So, I have to thank Mike for being a great co-worker and friend.”

When asked what advice he would give current or prospective MCC students, Calhoun said, “Stay focused on your dreams and goals and never give up.”

Outside of MCC, Calhoun loves fishing and drawing.
