Please share with students:Adam Clayton Powell Jr. was the first African-American from NY to serve in Congress. Beginning in 1945 through the early 1970s, Powell became an important advocate for Civil Rights and Social Justice. Known as "Mr. Civil Rights," Powell was a strong leader who spoke truth to Power through six different Presidents.
