Lock It, Hide It, Keep It

Please share with students:

Recent vehicle break-ins at Tim Horton’s Ice Plex, during weekend Hockey Tounaments, serve as an important reminder for all members of our college community to take simple precautions to protect themselves and their property.

Unfortunately, thieves often target vehicles when valuables are left inside—even for a short time. Items such as backpacks, purses, wallets, electronics, gym bags, and loose change can quickly attract unwanted attention, especially when visible from outside the vehicle.

To reduce the risk of theft, please keep the following safety tips in mind:

  • Take valuables with you whenever possible. If you don’t need it, leave it at home.
  • If you must leave an item in your car, secure it in the trunk before arriving at your destination.
  • Lock your vehicle every time, even if you’ll only be away briefly.
  • Do a quick visual check before walking away to ensure nothing of value is visible.
  • Report suspicious activity immediately to Campus Public Safety.

While these incidents are concerning, awareness and prevention are our best defenses. By taking a few extra moments to secure your belongings, you help protect not only yourself, but the entire campus community.

Campus Public Safety continues to monitor the area and work closely with local law enforcement. Anyone with information related to these incidents, or who experiences a vehicle break-in, is encouraged to report it as soon as possible.
