Professor Christine (Christy) Woods, to serve as Interim Dean, STEM and Health

Pending the MCC Board of Trustees’ approval on June 10, 2024, Christy Woods will assume the role of MCC’s Interim Dean, STEM and Health, effective August 1, 2024.

Professor Woods currently serves MCC as a Professor of Mathematics and the entire SUNY system as both President of the Faculty Council of Community Colleges and a SUNY Trustee.   She is the New York State Mathematics Faculty Lead for the Launch Years Initiative, a national effort under the guidance of the Dana Center at the University of Texas, Austin, to support student success in math—from high school to community college completion.

Since joining MCC in 2000, Professor Woods has played critical roles in several College-wide initiatives in support of the College’s strategic priorities, including her service on the Aspen Unlocking Opportunities: Improving Outcomes in Gateway English and Math committee and writing curriculum for co-requisite and disciple-oriented courses that streamline the math journey for many students.  Professor Woods received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Service and Open SUNY Recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Online Course Design.

Christy Woods earned an M.S. in Applied Statistics Industrial/Quality Control from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Mathematics/Actuarial Science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

I am confident that Professor Christy Woods’s leadership and expertise will serve the Schools of STEM and HSPW well.

Please join me in expressing our appreciation and excitement for Professor Woods as she assumes this new role.
