Winter Weather Preparedness Presentation
Winter in Western NY, especially the Fingerlakes Region has its unique challenges ranging from wind chill, to snow and ice, to road conditions. Preparing for these contingencies requires a basic understanding of the weather forecast and knowledge on how best to navigate your way through weather patterns that can change in a moments notice.
The Public Safety Department through the Office of Emergency Management is offering a virtual Lunch and Learn session via ZOOM on Thursday, November 6 where Emergency Manager Chuck DiSalvo will provide useful and informative tips on how best to prepare for winter weather events. We will cover topics such as:
- The difference between a weather advisory, watch, and warning
- What exactly is wind chill and what are the best ways to prepare for severe cold temperatures
- What are the differences between a Lake Effect and Squall Zone winter weather patterns
- What are the geographical differences between Upstate NY cities that cause Rochester to have different winter weather patterns than Buffalo and Syracuse
- Vehicle and personal safety tips for winter weather travel and how best to navigate a travel advisory or travel ban order
- What can we expect weather wise for the upcoming winter weather season
You are cordially invited to join us at 12 noon on Thursday November 6 via ZOOM.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you on November 6!
