De-Escalation Skills Session - All Students and Employees Welcome

Please share with students:

Public Safety is offering a helpful and practical session on De-Escalation and Effective Communication, and all students and employees are invited to attend. The presentation will be led by Stephen Wise, Chief of Public Safety, who brings over 35 years of experience in law enforcement, investigations, and crisis negotiation.

During this session, you’ll learn how to:

  • Stay calm and confident during difficult interactions
  • Build rapport and communicate more effectively
  • Use active listening to understand concerns and reduce tension
  • Respond to frustration, anger, or anxiety in a supportive way
  • Recognize when to ask for help and follow campus safety protocols
  • Ensure that you both feel safe and stay safe in challenging situations

These skills are useful in classrooms, workplaces, clinical environments, and everyday life.
