We are pleased to announce the winners of the 53rd Annual English and Philosophy Department Writing Contest.

Callan Award – Research

  • 1st Place “From Legal Scholarship to Culture Wars: Misconceptions of Critical Race Theory and the Movement to Ban it” by Natalie Stoner
  • 2nd Place “Navigating Reproductive Rights Post Roe v. Wade” by Caelan O’Neill

Rice Award – Creative Non-fiction

  • 1st Place “Elderberry Wine” by Brianna Cook
  • 2nd Place “The ‘F’ Word” by Caelan O’Neill

Cooney Award – Literary

  • 1st Place “Primordial Construction: A Thematic Analysis of Elements in the Iliad” by Liam Berger
  • 2nd Place “Remedy Down the John” by Kennedy McKinney

Cloos-Susskind – Poetry

  • 1st Place “A Poem in Which I Offend the Sensibilities of my Denim-Skirt Wearing Aunts” by Brianna Cook
  • 2nd Place “Paper Gravestones” by Liam Berger

Langlois – Short Fiction

  • 1st Place “Ode to Black Cats” by Abigail Penoyer
  • 2nd Place “Bottle Memories” by Aiden McConnell

The winners will be honored at an awards ceremony held in the Brighton Room on the Brighton campus, Thursday, May 2nd, at 4:00 PM.
