Student Government Association (SGA) Public Meeting Structure
Please share with students:Welcome back, everyone! We hope you enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating break. We are excited to begin this new semester with you and look forward to working together in the weeks ahead.
Over the winter break, your SGA leadership team took time to reflect on how the meetings function and how effectively they serve the student body. Through this process, we identified opportunities to improve both participation and efficiency. As a result, we have implemented several important changes to the structure of SGA Public Senate meetings.
These adjustments are designed to create more space for student voices, encourage broader engagement during weekly meetings, and ensure that the official business of the Senate is conducted in a timely and organized manner. By streamlining procedures and clarifying the flow of each meeting, we aim to foster an environment that is welcoming, productive, and respectful of everyone’s time.
Below are the outlined changes:
- We have changed the order of the agenda, placing New and Old Business before Speak to the Senate.
- Please see the new agenda structure for the first Spring Public SGA meeting taking place on January 27, 2026. All SGA public meetings are on Tuesday’s at 2:15pm in the Forum, Building 3-130 on the Brighton campus, in room 200B on the Downtown campus or on Zoom.
- If you are interested in speaking during the “Speak to the Senate” portion of the meeting, you will need to register one week prior to the weekly meetings, no later than 5:00pm, with your name and written testimony of what you are planning to speak about. Please fill out the form below.
- Register to Speak to the Senate.
- Speaker testimonies (written) will be collected and made available upon request.
- Speakers will indicate whether they plan to attend in person or via Zoom to provide appropriate links to the meeting.
- The speaker will have 3 minutes to speak; afterward, the Student Government Association meeting chair may ask questions.
We believe these changes will strengthen our collective work, enhance collaboration, and allow SGA to better serve the campus community. We wish you much success in the Spring semester.
