MCC Robotics Club Places Second at National ASEE Engineering Design Competition

The Robotics Club from Monroe Community College placed second at the national 2026 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Two-Year College Division Engineering Design Competition in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 22.

Professor David Pultorak and Geoff Berl advised the student club and chaperoned six students: Ryan Sanza, Sam Harris, Kyle Otto, Connor Klute, Jacob LeBlanc, and Sophia Buchman

The student team designed and built an autonomous robot that could successfully pick-up, sort, and deposit three different colored foam golf balls that were randomly dropped on the board. This project required a fusion of different engineering disciplines and provided students with valuable hands-on experience. The team’s robot, Zippy, was named for the use of many zip-ties that were attached to motors and spun rapidly to lift golf balls up into the body of the robot.

Feel free to check the hallway in Building 07 later this summer for the trophy.

Many additional thanks to the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development, the Student Government Association, Deb Ake, and the School of STEM & Health for supporting the work of these students.
