MCC Proud: Meet Sean Scanlon

Sean Scanlon serves as the Learning Resources Audio-Visual Supervisor at Monroe Community College (MCC). His work focuses on implementing, maintaining, supporting, and training on classroom technologies, as well as providing audiovisual support for college events and internal Zoom webinars. Scanlon has dedicated the past 16 years to ensuring reliable and effective technology experiences for the MCC community.

Earlier this year, Scanlon was honored during the 2026 Employee Recognition Ceremony, where he received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service.

Scanlon earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from St. Bonaventure University in 1994 before completing his master’s degree in environmental studies from Goddard College in 2007.

He traces his career path to his experience as a student employee during his undergraduate studies. “I found I had a penchant for live music production,” said Scanlon. “I had the great pleasure of working and learning alongside some incredible touring road crews that further instilled in me a love for audio-visual work.”

Those learned skills developed further in the mid to late 90s and early 00s as a touring musician and further translated into a marketable career path that ultimately led him to MCC.

While he has several fond memories from his career – one particular moment stands out. “In 2014, I was assigned to be the personal technology assistant for Neil deGrasse Tyson during his visit to MCC,” said Scanlon.

When asked what advice he would give current or prospective students, Scanlon said, “Follow your passions, wherever they may lead. MCC is a perfect launchpad to discover those passions.”

Outside of the College, Scanlon is “…just your average everyday politically progressive vegan musician who advocates for animal rights, climate action, and is a proud cat dad to twenty-nine rescued and special-needs cats.”
