Confidence in STEM: What Really Helps Students Stick With It

Looking for ways to help students feel more capable and motivated in STEM courses? Join us this Friday for a brown bag discussion focused on practical approaches that build students’ confidence and resilience. We will discuss the common challenges that can cause students to question their abilities, along with research‑supported methods that encourage them to stick with difficult material.

And if you ever find yourself stuck writing the same, non-specific comments on student work, this session is for you. We’ll look at how process‑focused feedback can move beyond simple praise and guide students toward more productive interpretations of mistakes and setbacks.

You’ll leave with a set of straightforward, ready‑to‑use strategies you can bring into your classrooms right away.

We hope you can be part of this conversation!

Date: Friday, March 13th
Time: 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm
Location: TCC Room 12-201 or join the conversation via Zoom
Facilitators: Hearther Pierce, Azwana Sadique, Jason Szymanski, Lydia Tien
Hosted by Melis Kural (Teaching and Creativity Center)

*This meeting supports Goal 2.4: “Identify and reduce barriers that impact student enrollment and success” of MCC’s Vision 2027 Strategic Plan.
