Kudos Gratitude Series (Day 8): Students to Faculty (STEM, Health and Information and Computer Technology)

As we celebrate our students’ graduation and their journey to success today, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude to all of our faculty, professional staff, and support staff who have contributed to our students’ learning experiences. Most importantly, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our students for their hard work and resilience—you all rock!

Today’s kudos messages include appreciation from our students to MCC STEM and Health faculty. First, I would like to acknowledge our TCC’s second faculty lead, Professor Erin Strobl. Erin is leading our TCC Winter Teaching Institute, bringing compassion and a mindful philosophy to her teaching practices. Students and faculty admire you, Erin!

From Students to Biology & Health Departments

Laural Penman (Biology)

  • Professor Penman is an excellent professor. She is passionate about her subject area, offers many opportunities for her students to earn extra credit, and generously shares her time offering extra help.

Steven Bauer (Biology), First Year Faculty

  • He is always so understanding and calm. He answers every question and reassures you that you will do great.

Barbara Litterio (Health and Physical Education)

  • I would like to thank Professor Litterio Barbara for providing clear and easy-to-understand course materials. I really appreciate how well she organizes the content and makes it accessible for students.Professor Litterio is very attentive to students in her class and creates a supportive learning environment where students can learn without stress and even enjoy the process. All the materials she provides are very useful and important for my learning, and I truly value her teaching style and dedication.

Kristen Killian (Health and Physical Education)

  • This teacher makes every class a treat. She is real, dedicated, and compassionate.   The assignment questions are always interesting. I feel like I've learned a ton. Additionally, she walked the class through the procedure to access scholarly literature on the library website.   I appreciated her thoughtfulness and knowledge. Many times, a teacher will express a desire to help, but then not know the steps the student needs to take.

From Students to Information and Computer Technology

Bruce Link (Information and Computer Technology), Receiving 7 Kudos

  • Professor Link is an amazing professor who takes his time with each student, allowing all students to receive ample one-on-one time with the professor for help and further explanations. Professor Link's teaching style works really well for the content of this class and it's obvious how much time he has built into every resource he provides. He makes the class fun and engaging with his labs, and the final project is really exciting.
  • My professor made learning not just understandable, but genuinely exciting. He had a way of presenting complex embedded‑systems material that pulled you in and made you want to know more. Instead of just teaching concepts, he showed how everything connected — how programming decisions affect hardware behavior, and how hardware constraints shape the logic behind good engineering. That approach created a much deeper level of understanding than simply following lectures or labs. He pushed us to think like engineers, to see the “why” behind every line of code and every circuit decision. His enthusiasm, clarity, and ability to bridge theory with hands‑on logic made the class feel alive and made the learning experience something I looked forward to.
  • Got involved the students learning more than any other professor at the campus. Truly went above and beyond for his students and genuinely cared about if we learned in his class or not. All of the courses that I took with Link were fantastic and I truly learned a lot from his teachings, from operational knowledge to more about my own learning processes.
  • He takes the time to engage the students. He helps those struggling on his personal time. He stays on top of all the assignments so it's easier as students to know when we need help.
  • Prof. Link has taught me for two classes, CSC206 and CSC202. I have found both classes to be a healthy mix of instruction and self exploration of the material. These classes have been some of my favorite at MCC because I feel like I am learning new material instead of reiterating on things I have already learned. His reverse classroom style works well for me because it is more support than a completely online class, while giving more freedom than a traditional classroom. Overall a great and caring professor who wants students to succeed.
  • Professor Link’s courses are thoughtfully put together, with clear lectures and labs that provide real, hands-on understanding. His impact on my learning was significant, and I was proud to become a TA for one of his classes.
  • I want to take a moment to recognize Professor Link for the impact he has had on me this semester. His constant support and guidance made a real difference during the weeks I struggled. He pushed me to work through difficulty rather than around it, and I came out more confident and thinking about problems in ways I didn't when I started. The amount of work he has put into building in-class resources is remarkable, and the way he incorporates student input shows a serious consideration for our insight and a genuine respect for our capabilities. Outside of the classroom, he takes an active role in advising the ICT club, encouraging members, new and existing, to expand their understanding and close knowledge gaps. On an individual level, he has helped guide me and others through the process of co-ops, jobs, and transfers. Thank you, Professor Link, for everything you put into your courses and into the students who take them.
