Curriculum Development Considerations - for Faculty and Professional Staff

As we begin the Fall 2026 semester, please consider the following.

  • After the Curriculum Committee initially reviews and approves curriculum proposals, they are posted in the Tribune for faculty comment.  During the two week comment period, anyone within the college community has the opportunity to examine proposed curriculum proposals, consider how they may affect programs across disciplines, provide feedback, ask questions or express support.
  • This review process promotes collaboration and transparency while keeping the college community informed about new offerings and revisions, program modifications, and deactivations.
  • Leaving a comment during the posting period is user-friendly but please contact the Curriculum and Program Development Office if you have questions. 
  • It is best to provide feedback during this posting period, as comments received during the posting period are considered before a proposal's possible approval. 
  • While individuals are encouraged to comment, it is difficult to review every proposal.  A best practice departments can consider is to agree on a calendar of shared responsibility of assigning someone to review Curriculum postings and rotate that responsibility. Comments can be posted on behalf of a department to demonstrate consensus. 
  • Academic departments and chairs should remember the collaborative nature of Curriculum Development. Proposers should consult with peers within their department when developing proposals.
  • Any large-sized department should consider establishing a departmental curriculum review process if they don't already have one.  The Biology and Mathematics departments are good best practice examples.
  • Please note the deadlines for implementing course revisions; October 1 for Spring, January 15 for Summer and March 1 for Fall.
