Title II Progress & Updates

We wanted to express our deep gratitude to all in our MCC community as we work toward compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Our team appreciates your willingness to work with us toward this goal and looks forward to continuing our efforts.

On Monday, April 20, the Civil Rights Division of the Federal Department of Justice published an Interim Final Rule (PDF), extending the Title II compliance deadline for State and Local Government Entities with a total population of 50,000 or more, including MCC. The new deadline is now April 26, 2027. This does not change our requirement of adhering to current federal and state laws regarding accessibility.

We realize this last-minute extension may cause some frustration. It does not negate the extraordinary work that has been done. We acknowledge and deeply appreciate all of the countless months, weeks, days, and hours given so far to meet the original deadline. It was not all for nothing, as it has given us a great advantage, giving us more time to adequately meet the new compliance requirements without the pressure of a tight timeline.

Your efforts reflect our core values and steadfast commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Your work shows your dedication and leadership in providing greater access to digital content and systems for individuals with disabilities, for whom many challenges and barriers still exist.

Thank you for your flexibility, collaboration, and continued partnership as we move forward together to achieve Equity in Every Edit! Stay tuned for updates as the Committee's work will continue throughout the months ahead.
