Professor Christina Lee defends her Doctoral Dissertation

Professor Christina Heyon Lee, coordinator in Global Education and International Service Office, defended her doctoral dissertation project titled, increasing a Sense of Belonging for Asian American Students at Monroe Community College, on May 2, 2024. She will graduate from the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester with an EdD in Educational Administration with Specialization in Higher Education.

Professor Lee was also presented with two proclamations this year (one from Senator Jeremy Cooney and one from the Town of Brighton) for her community service as a member of the Brighton Central School District Board of Education.  She currently serves as Vice President and is the first Asian American and first person of color elected to Brighton's Board of Education. Professor Lee, currently co-chairs the Diversity Counsel at MCC and is the advisor to the Global Union International Students Association.

She recently joined a panel at the first NYS AAPI Summit in Albany to reflect on her work and the needs of Asian Americans in the Upstate NY area. Christina’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed at MCC. She has a strong work ethic and a positive attitude and has gone above and beyond expectations, demonstrating a level of professionalism and commitment that is truly commendable.  Her consistent efforts have had a significant impact on our students and colleagues who have worked directly with her.  Professor Lee’s exceptional skills and talent have truly made a difference in student success.

On the behalf of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Belonging and the MCC family, we commend and celebrate Christina on accomplishing her well-deserved doctorate.
