We are pleased to announce the winners of the 55th Annual English/Philosophy Department Writing Contest.

Callan Award – Research

  • 1st Place “Obsolution of the Human Project” by Morreen Walsh

Rice Award – Creative Non-fiction

  • 1st Place “The Gate” by Maryam Barak
  • 2nd Place “Vocation” by Loralei Lisi

Cooney Award – Literary

  • 1st Place “The Ethics of Bear Country: How Stories Shape Childhood Moral Reasoning” by Kevin Asip
  • 2nd Place “Seeing the Cathedral” by Morreen Walsh

Cloos-Susskind – Poetry

  • 1st Place “What My Father Gave Me” by Morreen Walsh
  • 2nd Place “Cat Distribution System” by Diana Coppola

Langlois – Short Fiction

  • 1st Place “Friend of the Show” by Niamh Kenney
  • 2nd Place “Surrogate” by Niamh Kenney

We are pleased to announce for the first time two Honorable mentions:

  • Rice Award – Creative Non-fiction: “To Believe In Magic” by Zya Hutchins
  • Cloos-Susskind – Poetry: “Stories for John” by Gabriel Romano

The winners will be honored at an awards ceremony held in the Empire Room on the Brighton campus, Thursday, May 7th, at 4:00 PM.
