MCC Daily Tribune
Student Veteran Profile: Cam Bostley
This week, we're honoring two of our student veterans by sharing their stories in the Daily Trib. Each feature highlights their service and personal journey. Join us in celebrating these remarkable students — and all who have served — as we honor the commitment and sacrifice of those in uniform.
- Branch: Sergeant, United States Marine Corps (Intel Specialist)
- Date of Service: I served from 2019 to 2025.
- Stationed/Active Duty: I was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, and deployed to Asia under the Unit Deployment Program (UDP).
What motivated you to join the military?
I had just withdrawn from my second consecutive semester at MCC, and I needed some structure. I wanted to be productive, and school wasn’t the right fit for me at the time. The Marine Corps was never part of my plan, just a spontaneous decision that sounded cool to an impulsive 18-year-old.
Are there parts of your military experience that help you as a student? If yes, explain.
The Marine Corps played a huge role in establishing habits that set me up for success in college. Most importantly, I learned how to be resilient. School throws curveballs at you the same way the military does; you just need to learn how to adapt to the lifestyle.
What challenges have you faced as a student-veteran?
The biggest challenge has been the feeling of uniformity. The majority of my classmates are years younger than I am.
What does Veterans Day mean to you personally?
To me, Veterans Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the men and women who have made sacrifices to keep our country safe. It feels hypocritical to say, because I don’t like when people thank me for my service, but I think it’s important to especially acknowledge our veterans who served in a combat environment and did not receive the proper homecoming from the general public, like veterans of the Vietnam War.
What are your goals after graduation?
I am working towards a bachelor’s degree, so that’s my focus after graduation from MCC.
