MCC Culinary Student Wins Rochester's Student Chef-of-the-Year

Congratulations to MCC Culinary student, Abhinav Praharsh Tallavajhula, on Winning Rochester’s Student Chef-of-the-Year!

Rochester area culinary students came together on Monday, April 13th, to compete for the title of the American Culinary Federation Rochester chapter (ACFR) Student-Chef-of-the Year. The competing participants were from the Monroe Community College Culinary Arts program and the Food Link Culinary Career Fellowship program. Each student had 1-hour 30-minutes to prepare a restaurant quality meal, working with a market basket of produce and starches, and a mystery protein that was revealed just before cooking started. Abhinav’s winning dish featured a pan-seared flank steak & scallops, Dijon mustard pan sauce, parsnip puree, and grilled broccolini. Abhinav received an engraved chef’s knife, a one-year American Culinary Federation national membership, and an engraved medal. He will be celebrated at the annual Rochester Chef-of-the-Year dinner in July.
