Tech Alert: College Network Upgrade - February 16-20, 2026

The Technology Services team will be upgrading portions of the Brighton Campus network infrastructure during Winter Break, February 16-20. 

What's happening: 

We're replacing network equipment in buildings across campus to improve performance and reliability. This is the first campus-wide network upgrade since 2012. The Downtown Campus was successfully upgraded in 2025. 

When:

Work begins Monday, February 16, and continues through Friday, February 20. Areas affected in this phase are in buildings 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 12. 

What to expect:

This week, areas near network closets being upgraded will experience service interruptions as our installation team upgrades them. Areas will be notified in advance of their specific upgrade window. If you have questions about timing, please contact the Technology Help Desk. 

Planning for the week:

The upgrade will affect each area for up to 4 hours, either in the morning or the afternoon of their scheduled day. Network services outside the upgraded areas will stay available throughout the period. 

During the network upgrade, you will temporarily lose access to: 

  • Wired internet and network access 
  • Wi-Fi connectivity 
  • Desk phone service 
  • Printing 
  • Remote access to your office computer 

If you will be on campus during the upgrade: 

  • You can continue working on files saved locally to your office computer during your area's upgrade window 
  • If you need network access during your area's scheduled upgrade time, you can work from another building's office, use Wi-Fi in another area, go to the library for Wi-Fi or computer use, or work from another campus location 
  • Remember to save your work frequently throughout the week
