Technology Preparations for the Planned Campus Power Shutdown

In preparation for the planned campus power shutdown on Saturday, July 25 (rain date Sunday, July 26), Technology Services recommends that employees complete the following technology-related preparations before leaving campus for the weekend. The shutdown is part of a Facilities project to support critical infrastructure upgrades. See Tribune postings from July 13 and 17 for additional information from Facilities.

Before you leave campus for the weekend:

  • Shut down your computer.
  • Power off sensitive electronic equipment when possible.
  • If you access your office computer remotely using Remote Desktop, make arrangements for someone on campus to power it back on after service is restored.
  • Check for and install Windows updates to avoid delays when returning to work.

To check for updates, go to Start > Settings > Windows Update. Even if Windows says "You're up to date," select Check online for updates from Microsoft Update to look for additional available updates. Install any pending updates before the weekend if possible. If your computer has not been powered off recently, updates may install automatically the next time it starts up, which could delay your login when you return to work.

If you have any questions, please call Employee Technical Support at 585-292-8324, option 3, Monday thru Friday, 8:45 am to 4:45 pm.
