MCC Proud: Meet Christine Cormack
Christine Cormack is the Mac Specialist for the Visual & Performing Arts (VaPA) Department at Monroe Community College (MCC). She oversees the student aides; manages, maintains, and supports all of VaPA’s Apple devices and related equipment; and provides technical and instructional support to professors and adjunct faculty. She is currently in her 12th year at the College.
As a student, Cormack aspired to help others and initially planned to become a nurse. However, her high school guidance counselor encouraged her to pursue a career in computers instead. “I love my career and what I do here at MCC, but that certainly was the wrong advice!” said Cormack.
Cormack has several fond memories of her time at MCC, including her first year at the College, each year's Employee Recognition Ceremony, helping people find their way (for some reason, lost people end up at my office door), and seeing the turtle eggs hatch in front of Building 5.
When asked what advice she would give current or prospective MCC students, Cormack said, “As others have said here before, talk with and get to know your professors, make use of the many MCC resources available, get to know all of your classmates, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
Cormack attended RIT and earned her degree in computer service. She worked in the industry for 25 years before opening her own Apple-authorized repair business. Once her kids went to college, Cormack joined MCC, where she finished her Associate Degree in Science with Distinction.
Outside of work, Cormack is not involved with any formal organization; however, she is an active member of the “grandparents babysitting club.”
