MCC Public Safety Department Maintains CALEA Accreditation
The Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) recently completed its annual compliance assessment of the MCC Public Safety Department.
The MCC Public Safety Department was initially accredited in November 2020 and earned reaccreditation in November 2024. A successful reaccreditation is contingent upon the agency's ability to demonstrate continued compliance with applicable standards. Each year 25% of the 160 individual standards are reviewed for compliance by a CALEA Compliance Service Member. The accreditation process is a continuous quality performance review of the agency.
The CALEA accreditation is based on an assessment of 160 individual standards, assessment from independent public safety experts, public feedback, and interviews with agency personnel to assess its effectiveness and overall service delivery capacities. The standards cover every aspect of the department's mission of campus security, including best practices standards on administration, hiring, regular annual training, patrol and investigative procedures, disaster planning, physical security systems and evidence and property, etc.
