MCC Proud: Meet Antonia Custodio
Antonia Custodio, who has worked at Monroe Community College (MCC) for 33 years, is the Director of Capital Planning & Project Management. In her role, Custodio is responsible for the planning, development, and management of construction and capital projects at all MCC campus sites.
Custodio has an interesting career path at MCC. “I began my tenure at MCC as a receptionist when the Damon City Campus opened in 1992,” she said. “As I learned about the different divisions at the college, my role became more embedded with the Facilities Department.”
In fact, right before the pandemic hit, her role changed and she became the Director of Downtown Campus Operations in the Facilities Department. A few years later, as her portfolio expanded and she oversaw capital projects, Custodio transitioned into her current role - Director of Capital Planning & Project Management.
Custodio cultivated her leadership skills by participating in a number of professional development programs. In 2006, she graduated from the Latino Leadership Development Program through United Way. Four years later, Antonia participated in Cohort II of the MCC Leadership Academy. She was also selected to participate in the MCC President’s Emerging Leaders Fellowship (2018) and the SUNY Hispanic Leadership Institute (2019).
“All these opportunities I was privileged to participate in have helped me grow as a leader, a mentor and as a mom,” she said.
Custodio has received multiple accolades during her MCC career. In 1992, she was recognized for her 10 years of service and commitment to the Damon City Campus. In 2014, she was highlighted in the Inspiring Profiles at MCC - along with 10 other instrumental individuals.
Looking back on her time at the College, Custodio’s favorite memory was watching her youngest son graduate from MCC in 2023. He went on to attend RIT where he graduated in May 2025.
“A very proud moment for me,” she said.
When asked what advice she would give current students, Custodio said, “Enjoy your experience and take advantage of all the services MCC provides. Immerse yourself with the college culture and connect with your faculty and staff who are willing to help in any way they can.”
For those considering enrolling in MCC, Custodio offered, “As an alumnus from MCC, I tell prospective students and their parents that before looking at Ivy League institutions, consider MCC. MCC has a lot to offer from affordability, to programming, to housing, sports, and so many other great things. This is the place where if you are not sure of what you want to do, you can begin here and fill in the blanks while attending MCC. If you have the desire and the drive to succeed, start at MCC. You will be glad you did.”
Custodio graduated from MCC in 1999 before going on to receive her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Roberts Wesleyan College.
