Tech Alert: College Network Upgrade - May 26-29
The Technology Services team will be upgrading portions of the Brighton Campus and PSTF network infrastructure during the last week of May.
What's happening:
We're replacing network equipment in buildings across campus to improve performance and reliability. This is the first campus-wide network upgrade since 2012. The Downtown Campus was successfully upgraded in 2025.
When:
Work begins Tuesday, May 26 and continues through Friday, May 29. Areas affected in this phase are in buildings 1, 6, 21, 25 (PSTF), and the Residence Halls. Much of the work will occur after hours to minimize impact on services.
What to expect:
Areas near network closets undergoing upgrades will experience service interruptions while our installation team works. Departments affected have been notified of when we are expected in their area. If you have questions about timing, please contact the Technology Help Desk.
In addition to the network closet upgrades, wireless access points across the Brighton Campus are also being upgraded. Interruptions are expected to be brief (under 15 minutes per access point), and overlapping wireless coverage means many areas will experience no disruption at all. We appreciate your patience.
Planning for the week:
The upgrade will affect each area for up to 4 hours, and we have been in touch with the affected departments. Much of this work will occur in the late afternoon or evening. Network services outside the upgraded areas will stay available throughout the period.
During the network upgrade, you will temporarily lose access to:
-
Wired internet and network access
-
Wi-Fi connectivity
-
Desk phone service
-
Printing
-
Remote access to your office computer
If you will be on campus during the upgrade:
-
You can continue working on files saved locally to your office computer during your area's upgrade window
-
If you need network access during your area's scheduled upgrade time, you can work from another building's office, use Wi-Fi in another area, go to the library for Wi-Fi or computer use, or work from another campus location
-
Remember to save your work frequently throughout the week
Questions or problems?
If you have any questions, please contact the Technology Help Desk at (585) 292-8324(TECH), option 3, Monday through Friday, 8:45am to 4:45pm.
Thank you for your patience as we improve our campus technology infrastructure.
