Professional Development Opportunities in Neurodiversity
I recently learned about two professional development opportunities focused on neurodiversity and wanted to share them with you.
Please note that the program descriptions below are copied directly from the respective websites. The first opportunity, Working with Neurodivergent Instructors, is primarily geared toward individuals involved in teaching, instructional design, and student or faculty support but all are welcome. The second opportunity, Supporting Neurodiversity Across SUNY: Practical Strategies for Our Campus Communities, is a SUNY‑wide professional development program focused on supporting neurodiversity across campus and is open to all.
Both programs offer valuable learning opportunities. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Melis Kural (mkural@monroecc.edu).
Working with Neurodivergent Instructors
- May 13 & May 14
- 12 PM to 2 PM (Eastern Time)
- The workshop will meet via Zoom
Working with Neurodivergent Instructors is a 2 day-workshop that is intended for teaching and learning staff, instructional designers, librarians, or anyone else who supports faculty in higher ed.
The goals of this event are for participants to:
- Build their knowledge of neurodivergent instructors’ experiences and needs
- Explore how neurodivergent instructors’ needs may manifest in situations such as one-on-one consultations, workshops, and more
- Develop strategies for navigating communication challenges and other interpersonal challenges from a neurodiversity perspective
Neurodivergent staff and instructors are warmly invited to participate in this event and share some of their own experiences as part of the learning (if they choose to). Captions will be available and multiple options for participation will be integrated into the activities. Other aspects of the workshop will be planned with participant access needs in mind, which can be indicated on the registration form.
