The Week Ahead

The Office of Student Life and Leadership Development present the following events for next week:  

Peanut Butter & Jelly Community Service Project for The Surgical Technology Club 

  • Wednesday April 1st through Wednesday April 29th, Donation Box Located on Brighton Campus, Building 3 Room 126 & Building 9 Room 124 

The Surgical Technology Club are looking for donations to fill lunch bags for the Open Door Mission. Donations such as peanut butter, jelly (grape and strawberry), individual or family pack chips, snacks (hostess/mini muffins/fruit snacks/granola bars) and juice boxes will be accepted. 

NYS Tax Assistance Staff at Brighton Campus   

  • Monday, April 13th, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Brighton Campus Bldg. 12-103   

Tax employees will guide you step-by-step as you complete your own tax returns at no charge to you. Please schedule an appointment at the Taxpayer Assistance Program website (www.tax.ny.gov/tap).  

Yom HaShoah Photo Exhibit 

  • Monday, April 13th to Thursday, April 16th, Brighton Campus Building 3 Terrace 

The Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project will be setting up a photographic exhibit in the Campus Center Terrace. Tour the photo exhibit of local survivors and read about their stories.  

Student Government Association Senate Meeting     

The Student Government Association will be having a public Senate Meeting on Tuesday, April 14th. Feel free to join in person or via Zoom.  

Virtual Tour of Auschwitz 

  • Tuesday April 14th, 4pm to 7pm, Brighton Campus in the Brighton Room 

The Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project invites you to dinner and an educational virtual tour of Auschwitz. This experience will provide historical context about the Holocaust while encouraging reflection on remembrance, human rights, and our responsibility to stand against hatred. 

PC Building Workshop with Information and Computer Technology Club 

  • Wednesday, April 15th, 12pm to 1pm, Building 9 Room 263 

A hands-on workshop series where students will work directly with PC components while learning about hardware selection, assembly, and how different parts of a computer work together. 

36th Annual Yom HaShoah Commemoration Events: 

  • Thursday, April 16th, 9:30am to 2pm, Brighton Campus, Building 3 Atrium 

Join the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project for the 36th Annual Yom HaShoah commemoration event. We are celebrating the survivors, heroes, and scholars that have played a role in creating the project’s story over the last 36 years. There will be an opening ceremony in the Atrium at 9:30am, followed by the Calling of the Names and Candle Lighting from 10:00am to 2pm.

  • Thursday, April 16th, 11am to 12pm, Brighton Campus Monroe B 

Come here the testimony of a 2nd generation survivor whose family survived the Holocaust.  

Society of Women Engineers presents a 007 Social Gathering: A License to Network! 

  • Thursday, April 16th, 5pm to 7pm, Brighton Campus Forum, Building 3 Room 130 

An evening of high-stakes networking and connection. We are calling all secret agent alumni and fellow collegiate chapters for a night of community and professional 'espionage'. 

Guest Speaker Maddie Burke with ICT Club 

  • Friday, April 17th, 12pm to 1pm, Brighton Campus Building 9 Room 263 

Maddie Burke studied Computer Science at Monroe Community College before transferring to RIT, where she continued in Computer Science. She completes a co-op at L3Harris and now works there full-time as an Associate Software Engineering in the Space and Mission Systems segment. She will be speaking about her transfer experience, co-op, and transition into a full-time software engineering role.

  • Local Vendor: On Monday 4/13 enjoy a local vendor who will support the American Sign Language Club. 

  • Panera for SNA: MCC’s Student Nurses Association is having a fundraising event at Panera on 935 Holt Rd in Webster 

  • Focaccia for MCC Travel Club: Support MCC’s Travel Club by purchasing a loaf of their delicious rosemary-parmesan focaccia for $8. They are collecting orders from April 13th until May 5th and orders will be ready for pick up on Thursday, May 7th. 

  • SGA News: This weekend, April 10th through April 12th, nine Student Government Association students will be attending the SUNY Student Assembly Spring Conference in Albany. They will be participating in the election of SUNY SA Executive Board. Rusty Smetanyak and Elle Reeves are running for Community College Representative.
