Freedom of Expression is at MCC

As we settle into the rhythm of a new academic year, the first few weeks of the fall semester have already filled our campuses with energy, discovery, and connection. New friendships have formed, classrooms have come alive with conversation, and our shared pursuit of learning is well underway. Whether you are a new student finding your place, a returning student continuing your journey, or a faculty or staff member supporting student success, thank you for helping make MCC a welcoming and great place to learn and grow.
Monroe Community College encourages and values the free exchange of ideas. Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of higher education, and the College supports the rights of students, faculty, staff, and the broader campus community to express their views, engage in open dialogue, and assemble peacefully.
As we continue through the semester, we encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with MCC's Freedom of Expression Policy (Policy 2.7) and the related Freedom of Expression Procedures(Procedures 2.7P) governing assemblies, picketing, demonstrations, and other expressive activities on College property. While the College is strongly committed to protecting free speech and peaceful assembly, all activities must respect the rights of others, comply with applicable laws and College policies, and avoid disrupting the College's educational mission and essential operations.
Our campus is strongest when we can foster an environment where diverse perspectives are welcomed, respectful dialogue flourishes, and every member of the MCC community feels empowered to participate in the life of the College.
