A Message from President DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna: Celebrating a Milestone for MCC
Yesterday, Monroe Community College proudly celebrated the grand opening of the Sydor Optics Advanced Technology Center, marking an important milestone for our institution and the many students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and community supporters who helped bring this vision to life.
The new center represents more than a state-of-the-art facility. It is an investment in our students, our workforce, and the future of innovation across our region. As we formally opened its doors, we reflected on the transformative opportunities this space will create—expanding hands-on learning, strengthening industry partnerships, and preparing students for success in high-demand careers.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Grand Opening Planning Committee and the Sydor Optics Advanced Technology Center faculty and staff who helped make this celebration such a success. The event showcased the very best of MCC and reflected countless hours of planning, coordination, and collaboration. From preparing a welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors to leading informative tours and sharing expertise with guests, your dedication, enthusiasm, and attention to detail brought the center to life and created a memorable experience for all who attended.
I would also like to thank the committee for organizing the staff-only preview event on August 28. Providing employees with an opportunity to tour the facility before its official opening allowed many members of the MCC community to experience firsthand the innovative spaces that will support teaching, learning, and workforce development for years to come.
For those who were unable to attend the August preview, additional opportunities to tour the Sydor Optics Advanced Technology Center will be offered this fall. Details will be shared as they become available, and I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to visit this remarkable new facility.
Thank you to everyone whose efforts contributed to the success of the grand opening and to the many individuals and organizations whose vision, generosity, and partnership made the Sydor Optics Advanced Technology Center possible. Together as one, we continue to create new opportunities for our students and strengthen MCC's impact on the community we proudly serve.
With gratitude,
DeAnna Burt-Nanna
